Join the Pioneer Adult Sunday School class as we study the Book of Mark using the Encounters with God study book by Henry Blackaby. All are welcome to this summer study in Conference Room 1. The study will last seven weeks. This is the same book which will be used by the small groups this fall, beginning the week of September 12. If you think you might want to lead a small group, this is a great opportunity to become familiar with the material. We would like to have our study leaders/hosts for the fall sessions identified by the middle of August. This is an exciting opportunity to gather in a relaxed atmosphere with a small group of friends/neighbors/fellow Mt. Zion worshipers to study scriptural themes in Mark, and discuss their application to everyday life. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Sam Hergert, Adult Education Chair, at samary13730@comcast.net or 301-854-3802 or Mike Jacobson at mjacobson@nasifund.org or 301-596-9461.
Please pick up your quarterly giving statement in the West Narthex.

This past fall, Mt. Zion began a series of classes allowing anyone to familiarize themselves with Christian beliefs and history. Each course is eight weeks in length. The next class in this series is “Getting Acquainted with Jesus,” a survey of Jesus’ life and teachings that offers opportunities to explore questions about Jesus’ ministry and message and to determine one’s response to Jesus’ question, “Who do you say that I am?” Topics include: “Beginnings,” “Galilean Ministry,” “Passion and Resurrection,” “Sermon on the Mount,” “Parables,” “Early Beliefs about Jesus,” and “What Do You Believe About Jesus.” This class, taught by Pastor Malcolm, begins this Wednesday, January 14 in the Chapel. There are two times available at 9:30 am 7:30 pm.
The classes will be facilitated by David Norton, Mount Zion’s Lay Leader, Bob Fischer, Mount Zion’s Council Chairperson, and Pastor Malcolm Stranathan. Three class sessions will be spread over three consecutive Sundays. Session One will be facilitated by Bob Fischer who will share Mount Zion’s organizational structure, encourage class members to join in the Discipleship Adventure, and introduce leaders of the church to share their ministry areas. Session Two will be facilitated by David Norton who will share who we are and where we are going, including a time to share our new mission, vision and core values. Session Three will be facilitated by Pastor Malcolm who will share more about the United Methodist Church and invite them to become part of a movement here at Mount Zion in which God is calling them to make a kingdom difference.
Our first class will be offered on Sunday, January 18th at 9:40 am in the Fellowship Hall.
